Northern Michigan University Berry Events Center
The Berry Events Center, located on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, houses multiple athletic functions. The center seats over 35,000 guests and offers a U.S. Olympic sized skating rink. This rink is the third in America that will be utilized for U.S. Olympic speed skating. The Berry Events Center also hosts basketball and hockey games as well as theatrical performances. Precast concrete was used because it offered a durable, fire-proof advantage and great freedom of design. Designers were able to use precast to achieve open spans that enhance the entertainment experience for fans. The project was completed on schedule, enabling the facility to be utilized faster than traditional methods.
- The cold and wet environment of the ice arena required use of thermally effiecient wall panels. Spancrete wall panels are energy efficient as well as decorative as a design element given their sandwich construction/design method.
- Matching existing structures on campus as well as incorporating multiple finish options in the Spancrete Wall Panels
