April 6, 2010 Spancrete to Offer Designing with Precast Seminar on May 5th


Who Should Attend
This seminar is geared towards professionals who have not completed a college-level course on prestressed concrete design but have a basic understanding of reinforced concrete design. Those who will find this seminar useful include:

Design professionals (engineers of record)
Precast plant engineers (new hires or junior engineers)
Engineering students at bachelor's or master's degree level
Professors or professional educators involved with teaching/training basic design concepts related to prestressed concrete

Seminar Overview
Engineers and design professionals will gain a solid understanding of prestressed concrete design using a specific design example. The PCI Design Handbook, 6th edition, will be explored as a tool for designing precast and prestressed concrete structures. This interactive seminar will integrate a virtual plant tour, providing participants with a clear understanding of design concepts and fabrication considerations.

Straight Strand and Harped Strand Examples

Camber and Deflection
Design Responsibility

Continuing Education Credits
Attendees will earn 7.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) or 7.5 HSW-Learning Units (LU). A certificate will be provided at the conclusion of the seminar.

Seminar Fee
Seminar Fee is $150. This fee includes a copy of the PCI Design Handbook, most recent edition, to use as a reference for years to come, a CD of the handbook, seminar notes, breaks, and lunch. Speaker Information
Dr. Richard Miller is professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He graduated from Northwestern University. For the past 20 years, Miller has taught and conducted research in the area of prestressed concrete and concrete materials.
