Spancrete Wraps Up Work On Milwaukee Marriott West
Spancrete Industries is currently wrapping up work on the Milwaukee Marriott West. Overall, Spancrete provided 180,000 square feet of hollowcore floor plank, 23,000 square feet of form-cast wall panels, 4,500 square feet of architectural spandrels, 150 square feet of stairs, and 290 square feet of caps for this prominent project. The new Marriott will be a full service hotel catering mostly to business clientele in the ever-growing Waukesha area.
Spancrete's precast hollowcore was the best material for this job due to its ability to meet the design requirements of this large-scale project. Once the Spancrete plank was installed and grouted it provided cohesion and stability amongst the entire structure. The steel framework provided vertical stability while the hollowcore plank tied the beam lines together preventing lateral movement. The plank was used for the five above ground levels as well as the roof of the hotel. While hollowcore plank provides structural elements to this new Marriott, Spancrete's architectural wall panels and spandrels add to the exterior aesthetics blending well with the glass and EIFS (exterioir insulated finish system) facade. In addition to the structural and visual functions provided by Spancrete, the precast concrete exceed fire codes ensuring the safety of the hotel guests and employees.
Spancrete started on this job site in early May making this a fast track project. Jeff Loew, Project Coordinator from Columbia Sussex Corporation, states that this project "has been enjoyable and it has been a very good experience to work with Spancrete." The Milwaukee Marriott West is scheduled to open its doors on March 1, 2001.
