Spancrete Industries, Inc., the Waukesha, Wisconsin-based producer of precast concrete products, is proud to announce the completion of their latest multi-use athletic facility, the Berry Events Center, located on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.
The Events Center is designed primarily for hockey and Olympic short-track speed skating and is only the third site in America that will be utilized for U.S. Olympic speed skating. The facility also supports basketball, concerts and theatrical productions.
The bidding began in May of 1998, and the first load of material was delivered on August 17, 1998. A total of 271 loads of precast were shipped with the last one being delivered on June 30, 1999. Spancrete provided the textured exterior architectural wall panels, the risers and the mezzanine floor. The precast was manufactured at Spancrete, Inc. in Valders, WI. The Oscar J. Boldt Construction Company of Appleton, WI executed the construction process. The Center's exterior features a green accent stripe that matches one of the school's colors and integrates the facility with other campus structures.
"We're very pleased the project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget," said Dennis Cieslinski, the NMU Project Manager. He added, "The only problem right now is scheduling the large number of events; some people are afraid the Center already isn't big enough!" Keith Zimmerman, Project Manager commented, "Precast is the material of choice for climates like ours. You really need to close up those buildings quickly before the bad weather moves in."
Spancrete Industries, Inc. produces an entire range of precast concrete products including: prestressed, precast hollowcore panels and planks; concrete beams, columns, tees and girders; and concrete block and pipe used in the building, utility and highway construction industries. In addition, Spancrete manufactures machinery which is used to produce the precast hollowcore concrete products and markets the machinery worldwide. Spancrete operates multi-functional production facilities in Waukesha, Valders and Green Bay, WI; and Crystal Lake, IL.
