History

Henry Nagy had a vision. In 1946, Nagy, the owner of West Allis Concrete Products, was enjoying the success of the post-war construction boom. From across the Atlantic came an opportunity – an opportunity that Nagy recognized would forever alter the concrete and construction industries.

A German inventor had designed and constructed an innovative precast concrete manufacturing machine called a “hollowcore extruder.” Though damaged by a World War II bomb, Nagy purchased the extruder and its patents and brought them back to the United States. After repairing the bomb-damaged extruder, Nagy was able to produce long spans of precast concrete plank. Spancrete® was born.

In the late 1960s, Henry’s son, Robert, took over as the president of Spancrete®. Robert furthered his father’s vision and developed Spancrete® Brand precast products and machinery into the global leader in the prestressed, precast concrete industry.

Nearly 70 years later, Spancrete® is a third-generation, family-owned, global enterprise, providing precast solutions, as well as the machinery that makes Spancrete® Brand precast products.
